Giving Aid To Those In Need

In many regions across Africa food is a scarce and valuable resource, the supply of food can be volatile due to environmental conditions such as droughts. In Kenya alone more than 2.6 million people are considered to be “severely food insecure” as of May 2017. Significant food instability often leads to other societal instabilities in the region as food supply is one of the basic building blocks of modern societies.

PEK Care International is funding the supply and provision of emergency food, water and medical supplies in the Kajiado County of Kenya. We are also endeavouring to expand our reach into the counties of Turkana, Marsabit, Samburu and Mandera. Our goal is to supplement the local food supply with an external supply of food as well as help the local communities manage their food efficiently. Through this program we aim to reduce the impact and severity of local food shortages.

Far Reaching Consequences Of Food Insecurity

Malnutrition is a condition that is resultant from not obtaining enough nutrients from your diet, this includes situations where you can be eating plenty of food but where the food you are consuming lacks the vital nutrition that your body needs. Even a short period of malnutrition can cause far reaching consequences on a persons health and even the health of their future children. The most immediate danger of malnutrition is the heightened vulnerability to diseases and the inability of your body to heal wounds, these are often the primary causes of death in the victims of malnutrition.

Pek Care’s food program helps to mitigate the risk of malnutrition in the communities we aid. By supplementing the existing food supply of these rural communities we can prevent scenarios where the people don’t have the opportunity to consume the necessary nutrients to remain healthy and productive. By keeping the people of today healthy now, we can prevent the chronic health problems of the next generation and give communities the opportunities to improve their futures.
